The red head gave a half laugh at that. Those words made it sound almost like a charity case. Which really didn’t help much. He took his own ice cream but held onto it for now. Hearing the next few words brought back a smile, though now it was more mischievous than anything. “I don’t know. We are heading up to the top of the clock tower.”
He turned to start heading in that direction. After a few feet, he stopped and looked over his shoulder. “Has anyone told you that you’re way too trusting? Seriously. You just met me and for all you know, I could be taking you up there to mug you or something. I could have been lying about being gay too just to lure you to a secluded spot. After all, it’s rare for anyone to actually be up there.”
A smile and a giggle came from the girl. “But you’re aren’t.” Her faced turned red from laughing.
“You see, one city I stayed in for awhile I use to deal with a lot of that stuff. So I got a lot of training to be prepared. Not saying that I would win in a fight with you, but I would be able to hold my own.” He did seem a bit large, maybe she couldn’t handle. “If that was the case, I meant.” She hurried to say so just in case he got offended. She looked at her ice cream before licking it. “I don’t know, I used to be sheltered by people all the time, doing stuff I didn’t really want to do. I choose to be risky because its all I can be, I haven’t done anything but stay trapped in one spot everywhere I went. So excuse me for trying to live a little of my life.” She laughed a little before bumping him as she walked passed.
“Heh heh, don’t know if you’ll like it right off the bat. The first few bites, if you’re new to it, are sorta odd. Bit more on the salty side than the sweet. But it gets good fairly fast."
The smile faded for a moment. “Ya sure you wanna pay for me too? I can cover myself.” He disliked the feeling of someone paying for him. It made him feel indebted and a bit useless. “I’ll pay for the next round if you want to hang out again after this.”
"Don’t worry about it. I don’t have anything or anyone else but myself to spend money on. It’s nice to help others out.” Garnet smiled and the teller began to hand her the change. She shook her head and grabbed the ice cream and bit into it. “Oh, yep I had a candy this flavor…but for it to be so soft and cold. It does make it taste a bit weird."
"Why wouldn’t I want to hang out after this? You make it seem like you are afraid that I don’t like you…or you are about to do something.” Garnet laughed at the face Axel made. She hoped it wasn’t something too crazy.
He couldn’t help but laugh a bit at her reaction. She was going to be a fun one to tease, that’s for sure. “I know the best spot to get the treat. Not to far off from the station.” He hummed as they strolled. “You’re going to have to pay for your own ice-cream though. I don’t have the chivalry to pick up the tab for a lady. Or the cash.”
After a few minutes of walking, he headed over to a stand with a bright colored sign. “They got ton of flavors to pick from, but the specialty is Sea-Salt. Ever had it before?” The ginger asked as he ordered for himself.
The laughter Axel had made Garnet smile each time. “Oh jeez, I’ll pay for you then. Keep your cash for your boyfriend.” She stuck her tongue out. “I’m sure you wouldn’t mind?"
The walk was nice, Til didn’t care for the random people almost bumping into her while she tried to keep up with her friend, but it was worth not being alone for awhile.
Garnet looked at all the flavors and pondered over the watermelon or the lime. "Sea salt? so it has like a sweet but salty taste? I think I have had candy like that.” She tried to remember back but it wouldn’t come to her quick enough. “I’ll try the Sea-Salt.” She grabbed her money out, enough to pay for both.
“Sure, that sounds fine by me. And I’m done now. Just gotta get the cash into the registrar and I can be out the door.” He took the payment and went over to the counter near the entrance. “I’m good for the rest of the day. No classes or homework to worry bout. So I don’t mind just hanging out. Any places you wanna check out?"
The ginger took off the apron and tossed it over his shoulder. The tips he had made, he pocketed. “If not, I wouldn’t mind getting an ice cream and hanging out at the clock tower for a bit.” Axel went to the door and held it open, waiting for her to join him. Of course, he couldn’t help but tease her a bit as he smirked, “Just remember, I’m taken. Don’t try to win me over to the girl side of the coin.”
Til was glad Axel agreed on tagging along. She was worried that he would refuse and then wonder if they would ever speak again. It was a reoccurring thing in her life. She clapped a little then grabbed her things and waited patiently until he was ready.
Garnet was unsure where to go if it was up to her. Being new to town still she only knew where a few main places were. "Mmmm I don’t have any places to go. So…ice cream and the clock tower it is.” She pulled her hair back as he walked to open the door.
“Axel! Oh my gosh, don’t say that!” Garnet got quiet trying to keep from smiling seeing Axel’s face at her reaction. She shook her head and let herself smile. “Let’s go"
To her, Axel seemed like an older brother, and she needed someone like that around. Being in Twilight Town by herself, with no one she knew there. It felt good to have him.
“Sure thing.” He waited until she was done before taking the plate. At the question, he looked at the clock, “I get off in about twenty minutes. Probably sooner if no one else shows up. Why, you want to hang out more?” Axel turned to bring the dishes back and to get her bill, “Hold that answer real quick. I’ll be right back.” The ginger went to the back, for a few minutes, having a quick chat with the cook. Shortly after, he was back with her bill. “I can leave after you pay.”
Garnet didn’t want to seem desperate for a friend to hang out with, but it was exactly what she was. She had a little time to think of how to say it when Axel went to the kitchen. What would they do if they hung out more? She didn’t want to keep him tied up with her if he had plans already. Maybe she was over thinking it all.
"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to walk back to campus together? I can wait for you if its only that short bit of time. Til rubbed her arms and sat comfortably as she pulled out her money for payment and tip. “If you don’t ave any plans after we can always learn more about each other.” It felt weird just saying it to her, she regretted saying anything at all.
“He doesn’t like me going around and shouting it out.” Axel chuckled a bit. “And I did have my eye on him for a really long time, we recently got together. Trust me though, getting in trouble with him can be way worse then anything else you can imagine. Not that it’s a bad thing of course.” The last part was chimed as he smirked some more.
The smirk changed to a friendly smile, “You like your independence hm? Good for ya. Be prepared to get some pests cuz of it, but you seem like a tough girl who can handle it. There are definitely guys who like people who can hold their ground.”
Garnet smiled. “Well it does seem a bit odd to go around scream through the town who you are dating, even if you are excited enough to do so.” The dark haired girl finished her dish. “This was great, please thank the chef for me.” She left a few pieces due to being full it seemed a bit rude, so she picked up her fork once again and stuck it in the last pieces. “There, uh so when do you leave here?” Garnet was quite bored and she had a long walk back. She would wait for Axel if it was a short amount of time.
The waiter couldn’t help but laugh at that. “Oh yeah. I have my share of pranks that get me into trouble now and again.” Not to mention that he occasionally gets into fights for no reason…. and drinking can lead to issues here and there. “If it wasn’t for a certain someone, I’d probably woulda been expelled from high school a few times, as well as get into some other messes.”
Axel nodded as she talked bout moving around and her type. “Sounds like you need a real prince charming. Someone who’ll pick ya up and spin ya around. Sure you’ll be able to find someone on campus eventually. Though you might wanna make sure they are interested in the opposite sex, you know?” He gave her a wink with the tease.
“As for luck finding a guy myself? Not something I need. Already have him.”
“Heh, you are definitely right.” Garnet seemed to grow closer to guys who weren’t really into her like she was into them. It was an odd situation but it happens. She couldnt help but think of this as Axel spoke. When she met Axel she thought he was straight, maybe she was subconsciously growing a liking for him?
She scoffed lightly with a blush. “I don’t want any prince charming’s. They always think they need to do for me and take care of me. It’s annoying, I rather someone tell me I have to work for it, or lets me understand what I do wrong on my own.” Garnet felt strongly about being independent that way. She would always meet someone who would take care of her as if she was so dainty that she couldn’t do a thing but look pretty. Just thinking about it make her want to go work on a farm or in construction.
“Oh really? I’m sorry I got confused. From what it sounded like before was as if you had your eye on someone. I’m really happy you have that special someone that makes your heart flutter.” She felt a little jealous, though his words made her feel a lot better. “He is lucky to have a good person like you around. Minus all the trouble you somehow get into.”
Ah, so maybe is she is a bit more accepting then what I had thought. Still, seems like she’s forcing it a bit. It wouldn’t be the first time someone asked these kinds of question to him. “Yup, completely sure.” His expression was guarded behind his smile, and he made sure to keep it that way.
With a simple shake of of his head, he replied “Sorry, not all that interested in going round to pick up random guys. Been there, done that. I have a new rule that I’ve got to know them for a while before I ask any of them out.” His smile slowly turned into a smirk for the next question though. “My kind hm? Well I like them to be roughly my height or shorter. Taller guys bug me for some reason. They got to be tough as nails and not afraid to drag my ass off when I get to be too big of a pest. Fun to get into arguments with and tease. Gotta be rough too, no fun if they’re to docile. Someone who’ll have my back when I need them and not just toss me to the side when they get bored. Maybe they could have some of their own quirks like, I donno, like an obsession with space or something.” Was he talking bout someone in specific? Oh yeah. He was the inger’s best example after all.
Axel was pretty open about what he was into, Garnet didn’t expect it. She cleared her throat as she listen to him speak about keeping him in check. “So…you get into a lot of trouble?” She couldn’t help but think he would need someone to get rough with him when he get a bit too much. Was she blinded by first appearance and a smile to see Axel’s true nature? She was before about his sexual preference so why not again?
“Well I really hope you find the right guy.” She leans in to eat a bit more as she spoke. “With me I think I would like a guy who can except me for me and not what I look like only.” Though most of the time of her life, the way guys saw her was blocked by her friends. She didn’t really notice everyone that was attracted to her but since she has moved so much every area had a few hostile human beings who would come at her directly to show how they feel about her. “I tend to find a guy every now and then but then…I move.” She munched a few more pieces before continuing. “But hey, I’m sure someone or something will come along and sweep me off of my feet.” She shook her head knowing that she was kinda desperate for it but she had to remember that she needs to stay focus on what she came here to do. Not a possible future in her love life.
She began think about what the red head said. “My perfect guy would be taller then me. I know it’s kinda cliche but I want to have that perfect moment where I can lean up to kiss them..ya know?” She felt a little weird about sharing that info with him.
Garnet laughed as he smirked. “Thank you Axel for everything, and maybe we could hangout sometime?“ She thought a time with Axel and his friends would be nice. The girl really didn’t know too many people here so it would be nice to hangout with someone she knew to meet other nice people.
As Axel turned away to continue his job, Garnet continued to eat. Axel’s words echoed in her head. "My heart just isn’t in it for the ladies" What did that mean? She drank her water and gulped a few sips down. That moment she guessed what he was saying. She choked and coughed with a surprised look. “So his heart is only in it for the guys?!” instead of saying it to herself, she blurted it out. This made her look very bad.
She assumed that Axel thought she wanted him. This frustrated her, she really wanted to explain her feeling but she was too embarrassed by what she just yelled. He didn’t really seem like he would only like guys, maybe he was teasing her again? She had a weird taste in her mouth, it was an intriguing flavor. She didn’t get those too often.
“Sure. If ya can catch me during my free time, I won’t mind.” The ginger went back to the pointless task of cleaning. The diner was already spotless, but there was nothing else to do. He wasn’t supposed to study while there was a customer about.
Her yell gave startled him. Uh oh. She wasn’t one of those people, was she? Well, the diner might just lose a potential regular, and he might have lost out on a possible buddy. Oh well. Axel wasn’t going to hide who he was just to please someone.
He straightened up and had on a guarded smirk. “You got it. I’m 100% gay.“
The dark haired girl blinked as he spoke. She never would have guessed that Axel would be gay. It wasn’t a problem for her she was just surprised that a good looking young man…was looking for another good looking young man.
"Ah-ha, are you sure?” She joked, she was quite curious on how being gay was for him or for anyone for that matter. A dear friend Garnet’s was gay but she didn’t like asking him questions about it since she knew too much about him. “
Garnet Til got enough courage to ask Axel a few questions. "So, we could go boyfriend shopping together?” It wasn’t something she would normally say, but she just let words go. She laughed and tilted her head as she thought about it. “What kind of guys are you into?”
Axel laughed, “Relax, I’m just messing with you. Be warned though, no matter how hard you might try in the future, my heart just isn’t in it for the ladies. I apologies in advance.“ He made a slight bow, but still kept his grin to show that he was still messing with her….though it was the truth. “Any ways, Ill get out of your hair and let you finish eating. Call me over when you want the check.” With a little wave, he moved to leave.
Garnet laughed as he smirked. “Thank you Axel for everything, and maybe we could hangout sometime?” She thought a time with Axel and his friends would be nice. The girl really didn’t know too many people here so it would be nice to hangout with someone she knew to meet other nice people.
